2009 class coming together

Arizona only has given out two scholarships in 2009 – to Mike Moser (SF) and Solomon Hill (SG) – but it is becoming very clear what direction that Lute Olson and his coaches are going in to finish the class.

At point guard, the Wildcats are the favorite for Abdul Gaddy and are recruiting him hard. UCLA, Memphis, Washington and Oregon are also in it, but in the end he probably goes to the Wildcats.

That would give the U of A as strong as a 1-3 as anyone in the country. But where do the Wildcats go after that?

At power forward, look for Arizona to add Andy Brown of Mater Dei High School to their 2009 class. Brown was on campus this weekend for the Arizona Elite Camp and he favors the Wildcats. I wouldn't be surprised if he announced to Arizona sooner than later.

Greg Smith doesn't appear to be in the picture anymore, as Arizona went in a different direction after he decommitted.

At center Arizona wants another player who was at Elite Camp in Anthony Stover. ASU will be the main competition here but right now the Wildcats have the advantage.

Look for Gaddy and Brown to make commitments in the next few weeks. Stover will take a little longer than the others.

If Arizona ends up with a class of Gaddy, Hill, Moser, Brown and Stover, it would be a significant coup for Lute Olson and the Wildcats program.

Many believe that the 2009 class is a weak one for the Wildcats to do so well, that would be huge for the future, especially when you consider how many players could leave Tucson early after this season.
