Defense dominating practice
More practices have come and gone and WildcatScoop.com has been in attendance. There have been many similar faces but some new ones are emerging as the beginning of the season gets closer.
At first we thought David Douglas would be the surprise of camp but Juron Criner is beginning to dominate. Criner caught yet another touchdown on Tuesday and his athletic ability is remarkable. While he used that ability to the fullest in order to dominate high school competition, his technique has seen enough improvement to warrant consideration for considerable minutes right away.
A.J. Simmons may not have enough attention going his way. He has started to play a bit more and there is little reason as to why he is not a contributor. If Simmons can emerge as a threat, him teaming up with Rob Gronkowski will be near impossible to stop. It seems that the coaching staff has similar thoughts, as Simmons is starting to make an impact.
The offensive line is starting to become a concern because the UA's defensive line is dominating a little too much. Obviously there is talent on the defensive line but not enough to the point where the O-line can do absolutely nothing about it. A healthy line will certainly see some improvement but there has to be a little bit of a worry with the first game only a week or so away.
Not many defenses in the Pac-10 will hit as hard as Arizona's. The receiving core has to hang on to its receptions but the defense is almost leaving no choice with the impact in which it is connecting. Mike Stoops has made no secret of the fact that Arizona wants to punish people and it seems the Wildcats are practicing just that.
Ronnie Palmer has not been getting much pub, but he is going to have to have a solid season for Arizona to succeed. He is certainly the leader and now comes the time in which he needs to act like it and realize the potential the coaching staff knows
