Darnell Shumpert commits

In one of the strangest moves Lute Olson has done in a while, the Wildcats have offered a scholarship and received a commitment from 6-8, 195-pound Tucson Santa Rita power forward Darnell Shumpert.

In one of the strangest moves Lute Olson has done in a while, the Wildcats have offered a scholarship and received a commitment from 6-8, 195-pound Tucson Santa Rita power forward Darnell Shumpert.

Shumpert averaged a triple-double for Santa Rita as a senior and had an impressive run on the AAU circuit playing for the ComptonMagic.

He told WildcatScoop.com on Wednesday that he committed to Arizona.

Shumpert's commitment doesn't seem to make a lot of sense, as he chose the Wildcats over offers from schools such as UAB, Cal Poly and Cal State Fullerton.

It brings Arizona's 2008 class to five and gives the Wildcats almost a full compliment of players on their 2008-09 roster. Other than that, the U of A doesn't seem to be bringing in anyone that is going to help any time soon.

It will be interesting to see what Olson has to say about the Wildcats' newest addition, considering the forward's lack of high level interest.

WildcatScoop.com will have more on this situation soon.
