Head Coach Mike Stoops, his assistants and players won't say it, but everyone inside and around the Arizona Football program knows it to be true:
Rob Gronkowski has mononucleosis and won't be back any time soon.
How long could it take? It could take a while. Mono could conceivably take at least a year to heal. Really, Arizona fans shouldn't have any expectations of Gronkowski contributing this season because even if he comes back, it will take a while for him to get back to full speed.
So now what? What do the Wildcats do without him?
Here are the top five players we look to step up in Gronkowski's absence:
1. Chris Gronkowski:
Very funny, right? Rob's brother is no slouch and will get more playing time with Rob out. Look for him to be used as a weapon in the air from the fullback spot.
2. Terrell Turner:
The offense's #3 option with Gronkowski in the game now moves up to #2. Turner is reliable enough to do anything Sonny Dykes asks of him.
3. Juron Criner:
Point blank, Dykes needs to find a way to get this kid on the field. With Gronkowski out, that's now possible.
4. David Douglas:
The true freshman can play and will prove it right away.
5. Delashaun Dean:
Perhaps more big play potential than anyone on the team, look for some big time grabs by Dean this season.
UA will have to make do without Gronkowski
