Recruiting depends on wins

For years, Arizona head coach Mike Stoops has gotten away with having medicore seasons. His track record at Oklahoma was enough of a draw to land some big name players and that, combined with the idea of rebuilding a program, is definitely appealing to many players.

For years, Arizona head coach Mike Stoops has gotten away with having medicore seasons. His track record at Oklahoma was enough of a draw to land some big name players and that, combined with the idea of rebuilding a program, is definitely appealing to many players.

Fast forward to this year, and that idea could be changing. The Wildcats have a decent class so far, highlighted by linebacker Trevor Erno. Erno is a monster in the sense that he attacks the ball with no regard. Should he come to the UA, there is a very good chance Erno will have a successful season.

In addition, the Wildcats have landed quarterback Richard Morrison and De La Salle running back Kylan Butler. Both players have superb speed and will fit into Sonny Dykes' plans with ease.

However, there is not much beyond that. Arizona has not done well in state and the early word is that USC is going to be difficult to beat for Adam Hall. Should Arizona lose, what would happen?

The obvious answer is that the class will not be strong. The current committed players would be tempted to leave, while it would be even harder to bring top flight players in.

If Arizona wins, however, the recruiting class could be legendary at Arizona. Players would look at Arizona and see an oportunity to play early and for a younger coach that would be considered to be very good.

The future of the program can go one of two ways and much of that depends on the direction of this season.
