Jawann McClellan update

Arizona solidified it's future when they received a verbal commitment from Milby High School junior Jawann McClellan. Milby has a 8-3 record this season, and its success is greatly because of the all-around play of McClellan who is off to a extremely impressive start.

Jawann McClellan has led his team in scoring in all eleven of Milby's games, toting a 22 point-per-game average. Even more impressive than his scoring, McClellan is averaging 7 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game from the shooting guard position. As the face of recruiting changes, McClellan is the first junior that Arizona has ever received a verbal commitment from.

"Will Bynum really made the difference (in my decision),"  McClellan said. "I knew that he was having problems there, so I really looked forward to hearing what he had to say. Will said that things have changed and that he loved Arizona."

The scoring ability that McClellan has displayed is extremely impressive. He has been described by many as a pure shooter who can put the ball on the floor and create off of the dribble as well. He indicated that he needs to improve the most on the defensive side of the ball before he arrives at Arizona, and said that he is consistently working to progress.

McClellan has had a chance to speak to many Wildcat players and coaches, and said that he felt "very comfortable with Arizona."

"A lot of coaches make promises, but Coach Olson didn't," McClellan said. "He just gave his opinions and offered advice to me."

One must remember that when analyzing McClellan's game that he is only a junior in high school. He is so explosive offensively that he has his team averaging over 70 points-per-game, a very high total for a high school team. By the time that McLellan suits up in an Arizona jersey, he will be another highly hyped freshman who will make an immediate impact.
