Mike Stoops had an opportunity to meet with the media on Monday and much of the press conference revolved around USC.
"We have now moved on to USC and this is going to be a unique challenge in a lot of ways. They possess a lot of weapons across the board. I think first of all you have to look at Sanchez as throwing the ball probably more efficiently and effectively this year than opposed to any other year I have seen them play. He is a much different player this year than he was at any time last year."
Much has been made of the starting running back spot, but Stoops made it clear that it still belongs to Nicolas Grigsby.
"Nic is not a real big guy or physical guy so he has to really be conscious of holding on to the football. He is a slasher and he tries to make big plays all the time and you can get the ball out away from you a little bit so there are some fundamental things we obviously need to do better with him a little bit."
The game against SC is big for many reasons, the biggest of which is first place in the Pac-10.
"You would be a whole two games up on USC really in essence. That is big just in the conference race because they are going to be there in the end. You put them behind you with a loss it looks awful good. I think we will continue to see where we are at with our program as we move through the schedule."
Due to that fact, Stoops knows that he does not need to tell the players much.
"It is a big game for first place in the Pac-10. I don't think anything really has to be said. Our kids know we have not accomplished anything yet and want to keep playing aggressively. I think we are in a good place. I think our kids are very confident in what they are doing on both sides of the ball and understand that we have to go out and execute very well and play very hard. If we can continue to play hard and fast like we did the other night we are going to have chances."
