Arizona loses by inches

Arizona did not make enough plays Saturday night and it resulted in a 17-10 loss to USC at Arizona Stadium.

"I was really pleased with our preparation and effort," Arizona coach Mike Stoops said. "Our execution wasn't as good as it needs to be when you play a team like USC."

Nobody would really disagree with this statement, as the offense struggled the entire night. Some will blame Sonny Dykes, but Willie Tuitama once again failed to read the opposing defense and make the plays necessary to win the game.

Of course much of that had to do with the SC defense and Stoops admitted as much after the game.

"They were too good defensively and that was really the story tonight," he said. "We were in it all the way to the end though, but that's just the way it goes."

The Wildcats had their chances but a missed conversion on fourth and inches and other miscues cost them. With the loss, the Wildcats now go into a bye week before playing Washington State.

"We're going to step back and take a big breath and figure out what we need to do," Stoops said. "We're going to try to go to Washington State and get that sixth win and take it from there."
