6-10, 210 lb. Arizona freshman center Jeff Withey is apparently leaving Arizona.
Sources have notified WildcatScoop.com that Withey is not at Arizona's Wednesday practice, which would confirm reports that the former 4-star prospect from San Diego (CA) Horizon has asked the U of A coaching staff for a release from his scholarship.
Withey's transfer is a huge blow to a program that is already decimated in the frontcourt. The Wildcats now have Alex Jacobson as the only big man on the roster starting next season.
It shouldn't be considered a big surprise that Withey is leaving, considering his one-time Arizona 2008 classmates Brandon Jennings and Emmanuel Negedu never even showed up to Tucson.
With Lute Olson's retirement, Withey now has no one inside the program that he was recruited by.
Attempted to reach Jeff Withey for comment were unsuccessful. WildcatScoop.com will have more on this breaking news soon.
