Oregon State head coach Mike Riley and company met with the media and had plenty to say about Saturday's game with Arizona.
Riley was quick to point out that this is one of the better UA teams he has faced due in large part to its balance.
"Arizona is a very solid football team," he said. "It's the most balanced Arizona team we have played against. In that way I mean offense, defense, kicking, all of it. They are all at a high level. Mike Stoops has done a great job in that program. We came in here nearly at the same time, I think I beat him by a year, but we've seen that thing grow.
"They have a lot of weapons offensively and they have always played good solid defense down there. They have two of the leading kickoff and punt returners in the conference. It is all the parts. It appears looking at them on tape, looking at their record and looking at us, it looks like a very good match-up."
Although Oregon State is in position to win the conference, riley says that it will not change the preparation for the upcoming Arizona game.
"It's been pretty simple. There has only been one story. This is the way it's going to be. It's like I've said before about football, you get one game a week. We put in countless hours during that week to get ready for that game. You will never hear us say ‘Well we overlooked it' or ‘We didn't prepare as hard.' That will never happen. The result of this game has major ramifications, we all know that, but we aren't preparing any harder for it than we have for any game, because we try to do our best every week.
"If that is a philosophy the whole team and the coaching staff buys into, then you never have to worry about leaving something behind. That is why, from the very beginning, that is what we stress. The story never changes. It's not any harder right now to tell you that we are getting ready for the next game than it was at the start of the season."
Offensive tackle Andy Levitre agrees with Riley, saying that this game is as big as any the Beavers have played this season.
"I think it is more of a challenge to all of us to make sure we are on top of everything, and not to overlook our game against Arizona this week. Because if we lose this week, that opportunity is no longer there for us. So it is going to be a big challenge for us to stay focused and win this game this week. We need to have a great practice and get out there and get after it."
