What was most frustrating in Arizona's 76-60 loss to Stanford on Sunday night was the team's questionable effort, almost from the top down. Nic Wise played hard, and Jordan Hill did at times as well, but who else?
The answer? Almost no one.
Chase Budinger seems to have thrown in the towel midway through the season. He's had two really bad games in a row, which follow two somewhat bad games in a row, and he couldn't find his shot in any of them.
What is wrong with Budinger? He's almost always the most talented player on the court, but for whatever reason just isn't giving a very good effort.
Equally as mind boggling is the Arizona coaches' continued decision to give Zane Johnson continued minutes. Can someone please tell me what this kid brings to the table? Sorry to be critical, but he's a designated shooter that isn't very good at shooting. It makes no sense.
I'm happy with what Kyle Fogg is doing and I liked the minutes Brendon Lavender gave against Stanford. It was nice to see Russ Pennell give him a non-garbage time opportunity, and hopefully his role expands against the Oregon schools.
I'm not so sure what Garland Judkins brings to the table anymore. His shooting is just so bad and he doesn't have enough energy on defense. If he could distribute better and play good defense it would be alright.
Fendi Onobun has been a colossal disaster. I feel bad for him but he played three minutes too many against Stanford.
Really, until Budinger gets it together, Wise and Hill should be taking every shot. Those two combined for 16-25 shooting against Stanford, which means they didn't shoot enough and everyone else shot too much.
It was a tough weekend for the Wildcats, but everything can still be okay if they could just get a sweep of the Oregon schools this weekend.
Effort the biggest problem
