Wildcats find new way to lose

We've seen an Arizona player be the recipient of a foul for trying to stand up (see Jerryd Bayless at Oregon, 2008). But we haven't seen an Arizona player get a technical foul for said act.

We've seen an Arizona player be the recipient of a foul for trying to stand up (see Jerryd Bayless at Oregon, 2008). But we haven't seen an Arizona player get a technical foul for said act.

We've seen an Arizona player make a careless foul at the end of the game to cost his team a win (see Jamelle Horne against UAB, 2008). But we haven't seen anyone do the unthinkable act twice in one season.

In Arizona's 65-64 loss to USC on Saturday night, we saw both, and it wasn't pretty. Between the Pac-10 referees screwing up another game with Nic Wise's intentional foul call and Horne's incredible foul to lose, you have to wonder if this team isn't cursed.

Either cursed or incredibly stupid, but either way this is getting painful to watch. It's like every time you are on the verge of really being happy about this team, they just have to find a way to screw it up, or someone finds a way to screw the team.

With the ridiculous technical foul call and Horne's stupid foul at the end of the game, the USC contest saw both.

Does Arizona really have this much karma from the Lute Olson years built up against it? Or is this just an incredible run of misfortune?

Either way, something has to change or the Wildcats are heading straight to the NIT.

Suddenly, the ASU game on Wednesday and Houston game on Saturday become extremely important for the Wildcats' 2009 NCAA Tournament hopes. Win both and UA is right back in it. Lose one or two and this season could be over.

With the way things are going lately, it's getting increasingly tough to be optimistic.
