Wildcats ready for challenge

It is no secret that Arizona is in a tough situation going into this week's set of games. While Saturday's game against Stanford will be difficult, much of the focus now is on Thursday's game against Cal, one of the better teams in the conference.

Arizona coach Russ Pennell knows that this is a time in which he needs to start looking at results around the country as the tournament draws near.

"Cal is playing for a lot, as we are," Pennell said. "We are going to have to be ready for sure. We need to play well and I think the guys know we are competing for spots not just in our league, but around the country."

While he hesitated to say that the Wildcats need to sweep this week, Pennell did not shy away from the fact that it would certainly help a ton.

"It would not hurt," he said of a possible sweep. "You never know what is going to happen in the Pac-10 tournament.

"I think we need to get a couple more wins, but I don't think we need to say it is all or nothing right now. We are certainly running out of games, as our schedule indicates."

Point guard Nic Wise is up for the challenge on Thursday and will need to play well, as the Golden bears boast a strong backcourt.

"They play smart," Wise said. "Jerome Randle is a great point guard playing smart and better than he did last year. We are going to have to close on their shooters and make sure we box out. "

Although the pressure is obvious, Chase Budinger says that the team as a whole does not talk too much about it.

"If we look at it as a must win game, then I think it will put too much pressure on certain people," he said. "I think we need to come in this game just like we come into every game."
