Sean Miller met with media on Thursday and had plenty to say about the current state of the program.

Although much of people's focus is on recruiting, Miller says that he must also take a hard look at the current members of the team.

"Identifying who we have on the current team, making sure they're OK and then adding the right pieces," he said."One way is you sometimes try to make a splash for the wrong reasons, get six or seven people to commit and then you guys would quickly point out to me that that wouldn't work. That can happen."

However, there may not even be enough players remaining to take that strategy.

"But I don't know if even eight remaining 2009 prospects are Arizona good," Miller said. "Getting the right people is really important. That will set the foundation of where we want to go in a much more significant way."

Due to that fact, it is extremely important for Miller to make sure that he keeps the current team intact, with the most important piece being Nic Wise.

"I've had a couple of good meetings with him, and I've gotten to know his family," Miller said of Wise. "I know this: What I would want for any of our players, is if they make a decision to leave, that that decision is because of all the positives out there for them.

"You never want a player to leave a program with an uncertain future, especially when you have such a great opportunity here. And in Nic's case, there's no question he'll be one of the premier players in the Pac-10 and can have a special senior year."

In addition to Wise, Miller believes that the eligible players from last year will be back once again.

"I told every one of those guys I want to give them a fresh start and be the coach that solidified things for them," Miller said.
