Kovalcheck a Cat

Richard Kovalcheck, a 6-3, 210 pound quarterback from San Diego (Calif.) St. Augustine has committed to Arizona. Kovalcheck had narrowed his choices to the Wildcats and Tennessee before deciding to stay on the West Coast.

"Richard really liked Tennessee a lot too," St. Augustine head coach Jerry Ralph said. "He ended up going with Arizona because he said it just fit his personality better. He had been leaning that way for awhile and just felt Arizona was the best fit overall."

Kovalcheck took official visits to both schools as well as Notre Dame, Colorado and Washington. After he tripped to Arizona, he told us it would take a lot to beat out the Cats but the Vols definitely gave him a lot to think about.

"At Tennessee, the people are crazy about football there," Kovalcheck said. "It would have been so much fun to play in an atmosphere like that but I had to base my decision on more than just football. Everything else I looked at favored Arizona and I'm looking forward to getting in there and fighting for some playing time right away."

Kovalcheck tore his ACL midway through his junior year and was somewhat slow to recover. Towards the end of the season, he looked like his old self and has huge upside at the next level. Kovalcheck has tremendous arm strength and is able to move around in the pocket and makes plays with his arm or leg. This is a huge pickup for the 'Cats as they're getting a quarterback who has top 100 potential when 100% healthy.
