Kirk Walters update

The South Christian Sailors basketball team is living up to preseason expectations. The Sailors, led by the tandem of Arizona recruit Kirk Walters and the Eastern Michigan bound Derek Van Solkema, have led the team to a 7-0 start.

Because of the sensational start, South Christian has been ranked number one in the first Associated Press Statewide poll for Michigan. The team is riding the momentum of a perfect start, and has two games, against Hastings and Sparta High Schools, on Tuesday and Friday respectively.

The Sailors are coming off of a second place finish in the state tournament last season and, in conjunction with having two players sign with Division I schools, returned all five starters from last year's team. They are trying to pick up where they left off last year, and they are not only winning, but winning impressively. The team is an offensive machine, averaging 72.4 points per contest and is beating opponents by an average of 22.5 points.

Of all of the teams in South Christians' conference, the Sailors are the only team to go undefeated to this point in the season. The team played its biggest competitor, Cedar Springs, which fell to the Sailors 77-54.
