Another coaching change

The Arizona Head coach John Mackovic has fired assistant coach Scott Pelluer. Pelluer becomes the second coach to depart the program in the last month. Pelluer coached the linebackers and special teams unit.

"I was told I didn't fit the staff," Pelluer said. "It's quite a shock. I'm very disappointed."

Pelluer was informed of the decision Thursday night. He was an original member of John Mackovic's staff when Mackovic was hired to replace Dick Tomey in 2000.

Pelluer coached the Wildcat linebackers and also coached special teams along with Larry Mac Duff. The special teams met with mixed results. They were very successful on punt coverage, giving up just 5.3 yards per return. The Cats blocked a number of kicks, but also had four kicks blocked.

"Needless to say I love the University of Arizona and love Tucson," Pelluer said. "I guess we'll have to go elsewhere."

Pelluer is the second coach to depart the program this season. Offensive coordinator Rick Dykes resigned to go into private business.
