Current team exceeding expectations

At this point, it is hard to imagine Arizona winning out and even if it did, it is harder to imagine it getting an at large bid. For many, these circumstances are upsetting. However, they should have been expected and were something that Arizona head coach Sean Miller warned about before the season even started.

When Arizona lost to Oregon State this past weekend, it was theoretically the end of the season.

At this point, it is hard to imagine Arizona winning out and even if it did, it is harder to imagine it getting an at large bid.

For many, these circumstances are upsetting. However, they should have been expected and were something that Arizona head coach Sean Miller warned about before the season even started.

This is a young team and one that is seemingly getting better with each game. There are obviously going to be bumps on the road and more than a few considering that the UA is generally a pretty young team.

In reality, this Arizona team is exactly where it should be. It is in the middle of the conference and an average, or little above, team in a terrible conference.

If the Pac-10 was better, the tournament talk would have ended a while ago. However, the weakness of the conference has allowed the Wildcats to stay competitive with the better teams in the league.

In fact, when Arizona is playing some of its best ball, you can make a legitimate argument that the Wildcats belong with those teams.

As disappointing as the season is, there is still a belief that this team is good enough and the conference bad enough, to allow Arizona to make a run at winning the conference tournament.

That hope was not there before the season started and simply should have never been. In other words, this team is exceeding expectations.

All of a sudden there is talk that adding a legitimate guard and big man will make Arizona a top 15 team and it seems difficult to argue with that notion.

The future looks bright and this season allowed people to come to the realization that getting to that future takes some time and hard knocks.

Getting to the point of success seems like a formality and although this team is going to have its struggling moments, the bigger picture allows it to be handled a bit easier.
