News, notes and stats: Arizona wins a sloppy one

Arizona didn't put forth their best effort, but did enough to down an Oregon State club that would not quit. The Beavers' shooting woes continued and that was the difference. Read on for more tid bits and stat...

PLAYER OF THE GAME
Channing Frye scored 24 points on 10-14 shooting and added 12 rebounds and a block.

PLAY OF THE GAME
6-4 Hassan Adams stuffed 6-9 Brian Jackson as he tried to go strong to the rack. He also did the same to Phillip Ricci and had three blocks total.

TURNING POINT
Hassan Adams had a steal and dunk with 7:33. Adams swiped the ball and threw down a backboard shaking dunk that brought the crowd to its feet and gave the Cats a 64-54 lead. Oregon State would get the game no closer than six after that.

WELCOME BACK
OSU Head Coach Jay John was a former UA assistant before taking the Beaver job last year. John is a graduate of Salpointe High and the UofA

NOT SO POTENT OFFENSE
The Wildcats had just two scorers in double figures, Frye and Luke Walton. It is the first time this season that at least three players failed to reach double figures.

NOT SO GOOD
The Beavers have lost 20 straight games to ranked opponents. Their last win was a 70-69 overtime victory over No. 3 Arizona on March 2, 2000 in Corvallis. They are now 2-22 against No. 1 ranked teams. They beat Indiana in 1954 and UCLA in 1974. On two occasions they have played a top-ranked Wildcat squad. They lost 70-48 in the 1988 Pac-10 Tournament and then beat them the next year 98-87.

SHOOTING WOES
The Beavers are 0-8 when they shoot under 40%. Against the Wildcats they shot 39.7%.

THE SERIES
Arizona has now won eight of the last nine games in the series and 19 in a row in Tucson.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
For the fifth time in seven seasons the Beavers will finish the regular season on the road. They do host the LA schools to conclude the 2003-04 season.
