When Arizona athletic director Greg Byrne met with the media on Tuesday, he talked about the bigger picture.
Arizona Stadium is not a slouch by any means, but Byrne knows that it is going to have to improve in order to compete with the rest of the conference.
Washington is putting 300 million into a new facility, Oregon State and Oregon are halfway done rebuilding their stadiums, Stanford has a new one already.
In other words, until Arizona improves the stadium, it is behind the curve.
Arizona can have numerous winning seasons and generally a successful overall program with the facilities it has now.
However, you have to assume that it will eventually catch up to the Wildcats and that is why there needs to be changes.
Arizona has the right idea so far, as it makes perfect sense to move the football offices to the football stadium. As it stands now, the football offices are in McKale and although the offices are pretty nice, they will likely be much nicer with their own space and being new.
In addition, it would be nice to see upgraded seating. Arizona has replaced some of the seats already, but they definitely seem to be outdated.
In fact, the stadium as a whole is a bit outdated. It would be nice to see the concessions increase and be more accessible, something that you can definitely find at other stadiums.
There is simply so much that can be done that we could go on for pages listing the different ideas that we, and others, have.
The good part about all this is that Byrne has similar ideas and seems intend on implementing them.
It should be interesting to see where Byrne goes with these ideas as the face of Arizona athletics continues to change.
Facility improvement a must
