Wildcat women fall short in title game

Stanford feared Arizona's freshman sensation Shawntinice Polk. The Pac-10 freshman of the year tore up the Cardinal in the regular season, but Stanford limited the Wildcat center's touches and beat the Wildcats 59-49 to win the Pac-10 Tournament.

Nicole Powell was sensational. The Phoenix native scored 19 points while dishing out five assists on her way to winning the Pac-10 Tournament Outstanding Player award.

The Cardinal threw everything they had at Polk and the strategy worked. With their zone sagging down on the post, the Cardinal dared the Wildcats to shoot from the outside or make the fancy pass. Neither worked for the Wildcats as poor shooting and an abundance of turnovers put the Cats in an early hole.

Polk, Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, did not get a shot off until midway through the second half and finished with just five points, a career low.

The Cats came back in the second half and actually cut the lead to four,  but could not get any closer.

Polk, Krista Warren and Dee Dee Wheeler were all named to the All-Tournament team.
