The Hugh Freeze era at Arkansas State officially begins in less than four days as fall football camp gets underway August 4 with the team's first practice at 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
Red Wolf players report back to campus in Jonesboro on Tuesday August 2, beginning their preparation for fall camp.
"We are excited about getting this season underway," Freeze said in an earlier interview with AStateNation.com. "We can't wait to get this camp started and get football underway here at Arkansas State."
Freeze, who was named the head coach of the Red Wolves in December, has had several highlights throughout the spring that has excited him about this football team and this upcoming season.
"The highlights for me always have to be the relationships we have with our players," Freeze said. "This has to start with our first recruiting class as a new coaching staff here at ASU."
Freeze truly cherishes his first recruiting class as the head coach of the Red Wolves.
"Those young men chose to trust in us and our staff," Freeze said. "They chose to come to Jonesboro to help us change the culture here and the mindset to that of winners."
Freeze has also enjoyed getting to know his current team and coaching staff even better as the head man in charge.
"One of the main things we emphasis here as a coaching staff and as a team is family," Freeze said. "We have continued to build the relationships with our current players, we have been developing them all through the spring and some during the summer when they stop by the office to visit."
The excitement and expectations surrounding this fall's team has been a pleasant surprise for Freeze.
"The excitement level around "AStateNation" is at an all time high," Freeze said. "Ticket sales are better than they have ever been. Our players are excited, our coaches are excited and our community is getting very excited about the season."
With all of the excitement and energy comes responsibility and Freeze is the first to recognize and to admit that.
"Our fans, our players and this community is so hungry for a winner," Freeze said. "I'm burden with that. No one wants our fans to leave our stadium happier and more excited than ever on how their team played. I want everyone to be giddy with excitement."
