The halfway mark for Hugh Freeze first fall camp as the head coach at Arkansas State is almost here.

ASU went through their ninth practice this morning in their Stadium, practice number 10 will come later this afternoon. The Red Wolves have 20 practices for fall camp. With the halfway mark in sight, Freeze was pleased with this morning's performance.

Freeze was quick to give today's early practice high marks.

"I enjoyed it," Freeze told a bigger group of media. "We got a lot more stuff installed offensively, wasn't full speed since we were not in full pads. Basically just a mental and teaching session. We had good energy, the kids got up this morning and went to work."

Freeze has seen several players banged up the last few days with minor nagging injuries.

"There is no way you are going to be able to keep everyone healthy for the entire fall camp," Freeze said. "That's the part I hate about this job, we just have to do our best to manage and hope to young men back before the season starts."

According to Freeze his team will go through all the game day routine this Saturday as the Red Wolves will hold their first pre-season game 1.

"They will see exactly how we do things on game day," Freeze said. "They will get a pre-game meal, meetings, we will do everything that we will do that day. This way they can get a taste of what to expect."

Freeze was asked what his policy was on red-shirting true freshmen athletes who might be able to contribute on special teams.

"It all depends on how many we have on the roster at their position," Freeze said. "If we have four juniors that will be seniors next year it might be better to red shirt them. But if we have four seniors it might be better not to red shirt them this year and get them some playing time."

Arkansas State will conclude Practice No. 10 this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. They will practice Friday at 3:15 before finishing up the weekend with a scrimmage at 10:30 a.m. the team will be off on Sunday.
