Entering his fourth and final fall camp as a member of the Red Wolves football team, linebacker DeMario Davis is excited to be at camp and approaching every practice as though it's his last.
Davis spoke with excitement and enthusiasm in his voice as he told AStateNation how camp has been going.
"Camp's been going good, just coming out every day trying to work hard. I like the way the defense is playing," Davis said.
Arkansas State held practice this week in the ASU Stadium trying to prepare for what Coach Hugh Freeze called "their first live scrimmage" on Saturday Aug. 13.
Davis leads a RedWolf defense that ranked last in Total Defense in the Sun Belt conference this past season, but is only looking forward to a new season under a new Defensive Coordinator.
The Red Wolves found themselves near the bottom of the conference in both opponents third and fourth down conversions efficiency in 2010, an area Demario and the rest of the defense has an emphasis on improving.
"(We've) been working on mental toughness and focusing on executing the plays," said Davis, the pre-season First Team All-Sun Belt Conference Linebacker.
The fifth-year senior also finds himself on Rotary Lombardi Award Watch?List and the College Football Performance Awards national Linebacker of the Year Watch List.
Watch for number 23 to lead this Arkansas State defense to the top of the Sun Belt this season. It all starts with the Red Wolves' first live scrimmage this weekend.
Fall camp coverage is being brought to you by the Coffee Gallery and Club Tan with two locations in Jonesboro. They are located at 3229 S. Caraway Road and 309 S.W. Drive.
