Arkansas State's latest commitment comes from the Red Wolves home state.
Rison's defensive back Marquis Walker became commitment No. 11 for Hugh Freeze and his coaching staff Monday evening.
"I made up my mind a while back," Walker told AStateNation. "Just wanted to wait things out a little to make sure I was making the right decision."
Apparently it was the right decision for him and one that the AState coaching staff was excited about getting.
"The coaches went crazy over the phone when I called them," Walker said. "Coach Freeze said he was extremely excited about me becoming a Red Wolf."
Walker took the ACT this past Saturday and was unable to take an unofficial visit for the Memphis vs ASU game. That didn't keep him from getting reports on how the game was.
"I talked to a couple of friends and they were telling me it was a crazy atmosphere," Walker said. "They were telling me how bad we whipped Memphis. I'm very impressed on how bad we whipped them."
Walker got the opportunity to take a couple visits this summer, including him participating in a summer camp in Jonesboro.
"Every time I took a visit there it felt like home," Walker said. "I really like the coaching staff a lot. They are a great group of coaches, they seem to care about more than just football."
According to Walker, the Red Wolves are recruiting him to play in the secondary on the defensive side of the ball.
Walker currently has offers from Arkansas State University, Memphis and UA Pine Bluff.
