Freeze picks up big in-state pledge

Coach Hugh Freeze picked up commitment No. 12 Sunday afternoon when in-state prospect Colton Jackson of Ozark High School committed to the Red Wolves.

It's been a good weekend for Arkansas State's Head Football Coach Hugh Freeze.

He found out late Saturday evening that his Red Wolves were sitting a lone the top of the conference standings as the only undefeated team in the Sun Belt Conference.

On Sunday Freeze received more good news.

According to Ozark Arkansas offensive lineman Colton Jackson, he called the Red Wolf Coaching staff to become commitment No. 12 for Arkansas State.

"I called Coach Gunn and Coach Freeze to tell them I wanted to be a Red Wolf," Jackson said. "They made me feel really wanted. They made me feel that I was important."

According to Jackson it was Arkansas State's persistence that won him over.

"They made me feel like I was already part of their family," Jackson told "They told me my role on the team and their expectations of me."

Jackson is also aware of how successful Freeze and his team has been lately.

"I got the chance to watch their game Tuesday night," Jackson said. "I was really impressed on how they play and the fact that they are leading the conference. Coach Freeze is building something special, I wanted to be a part of it."

Jackson becomes the third in-state commitment for the Red Wolves.

According to Jackson the Red Wolf Coaching staff was excited about his decision.

"I called Coach Gunn to tell him," Jackson said. "He gave the phone to Coach Freeze. Coach Freeze told me that I made his day, he then put me on speaker phone and told the group of coaches that big Colton was in the house, everyone began cheering."
