Castilaw has a lot of reasons to smile

Tom Castilaw isn't greedy but he will admit that he wants two rings. He recently married his college sweetheart Erica and got one ring, now with the Red Wolves undefeated in the Sun Belt Conference, the sixth year senior wants to finish off his career with another ring.

Sixth year senior Tom Castilaw has been through good times and not so good times during his tenure on the Arkansas State Football team.

This season has the standout center smiling for several reasons.

He recently got married to his college sweetheart Erica, he also is enjoying the most successful season he has had during his time as a Red Wolf. He now has a wedding ring, now he wants to finish off his career at ASU with a Sun Belt Conference Ring.

"Things are great on a lot of levels," Castilaw told AStateNation Sports Radio Tuesday. "I recently got married the Saturday after the FIU game. We won the game and then I got married things couldn't be better."

According to Castilaw, he proposed to his future wife this summer, they knew they belonged together and didn't want to waste time getting married.

"I went and spoke to Coach (Hugh) Freeze this summer and he looked at the schedule and gave me a couple of options for dates," Castilaw remembers. "She chose October 22."

Castilaw said that his head football coach was very supportive of his plans and even gave the sixth senior a special wedding gift.

"I respect Coach Freeze so much for the type of man he is," Castilaw said. "I went to him for advice, I see how he treats his wife and how important his family is to him. I went to him for guidance. He told me that he wanted to give me and Erica a wedding present, he gave me an extra day off from practice to spend with my new wife."

Castilaw got married on Saturday October 22, the team had that day off, the team returned to the practice field Sunday the 23rd to prepare for North Texas.

"It was special to me because I know how important is to work hard to prepare for each game," Castilaw said. "For him to think enough of our special day is special to me."

According to Castilaw, Freeze has played a major role in turning this team into a winner in his first year as head football coach.

"He is a man of faith," Castilaw said. "Special things are taking place on this team, we are truly a family. We believe in him, we believe in each other. This is the best season I have ever been a part of here for a lot of reasons."

Castilaw realizes that there is still unfinished business to be completed.

"We aren't going to take anyone for granted," Castilaw said. "We know that we have to come to work every day and give it our best. If we do that good things are going to continue to happen."

Arkansas State 6-2 and 4-0 in Sun Belt Conference play travels to Boca Raton, Florida this Saturday to take on FAU.

"It's our goal to win the Sun Belt Championship," Castilaw said. "We have to take one game at a time and this is an important game against FAU. We will be ready."

One thing is for sure there will be two Castilaws in Florida for Saturday's game.
