Arkansas State fans need to realize what a special season this has been.
As I was making my way to bowl practice Sunday evening, I stopped and realized a couple of things.
Sunday was the first day of January of 2012.
Most teams were already at their Bowl destinations or even had already completed their bowl game.
When is the last time that Arkansas State was still playing football in January? What does that really mean, playing this late in January?
It means that your team, the Arkansas State Red Wolves are playing a day before the National Championship.
It means that your team is going to get a great amount of publicity, something that doesn't happen very often for Sun Belt Conference teams.
By playing in the Go Daddy.com Bowl on January 8th in Mobile, ASU will be the only game on television this coming Sunday night. Every college football fans will be tuned in to watch a 10 win Arkansas State team take on a 10 win Northern Illinois. Does it get any better than that?
Many wondered why Gus Malzahn coached in Auburn's Bowl game instead of being here preparing his staff etc.
If you watched the Chic-Fil-A Bowl Saturday night it was easy to see why ASU wanted and encouraged Malzahn to coach the Tigers one last time. The Bowl announcers in Atlanta mentioned Arkansas State and Malzahn at least four times if not more and you can't buy that type of publicity at any level.
How many recruits were watching a Malzahn led Auburn offense destroy Virginia.
It was like a video resume for Malzahn and the Arkansas State offense.
An ad should have run at the bottom of the screen. "If you would like to play in this non stoppable offense, give Gus a call."
Any dual threat quarterback in the country should be chomping at the bit to be a Gus Malzahn quarterback.
Hey guys lets face it also, Malzahn isn't taking over a struggling non existence Arkansas State team.
He is taking over for a team that went 10-2 this past season.
A team that went undefeated and dominated Sun Belt Action.
A team that dominated the first and second team all conference teams including winning the player of the Year on Offense, the Player of the year on Defense and oh year the Coach of the Year honors for departed Head Coach Hugh Freeze.
Malzahn gets the No. 1 offensive player back for another year, the future is definitely bright for Arkansas State.
This Red Wolf Football team has a chance to do something this weekend that no other Sun Belt team has ever done, win 11 games in one year.
This is going to be a fun week in Mobile. Deservingly so!
This team deserves it, this fan base deserves it.
It's show time in Mobile. It's time for this football team and this University to put it's best foot forward, the Nation will be watching. The AStateNation especially.
