It appears that Gus Malzahn and members of his new coaching staff is making a solid impression on one of Mississippi's top athletes.

According to Camden's Velma Jackson running back Michael Gordon there is definitely mutual interest between himself and Arkansas State.

"I called Coach Malzahn Sunday night right before ASU's bowl game," Gordon told AStateNation.com. "He has told me that I would fit in great in his offensive system, he would use me like he did several backs at Auburn."

Gordon has already received a visit from new coach Casey Woods and he is in the process of building solid relationships with several of the new Red Wolf coaches.

"It's been good so far," Gordon said. "Coach Woods is very easy to talk to, I have talked to Coach Eli and Coach Malzahn a lot. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of them a lot better."

Gordon plans on getting to know the new ASU staff better when he takes his scheduled official visit on January 20-21.

Gordon currently has three offers, one from Arkansas State and others from Memphis and UAB.

Where does Arkansas State stand with Gordon?

"They are definitely on top of the schools that have offered me," Gordon said. "I have been hoping for a few more offers, but I like Arkansas State a lot. Them hiring Malzahn has definite helped lean me more in their direction."
