One Memphis athlete appears very close to picking up his first official offer.

According to St. Benedict athlete Alex Ashlock, he feels that a school that he recently took an unofficial visit to may be close to pulling the trigger.

"Arkansas State seems to be really close to offering me," Ashlock told AStateNation.com Tuesday night. "Jordan (Wilkins) and I went up there to check things out a couple of weeks ago. I really liked it a lot, I had no idea that there was a school with such great facilities that close to home."

Ashlock, a 6-foot-2, 235-pound athlete, plays defensive end and linebacker on the defensive side of the ball and fullback and tight end on offense for his high school team.

"I really like the way the coaches presented themselves and the school," Ashlock said. "Coach (Gus) Malzahn is very impressive, he is a great coach and a great guy."

It appears that Arkansas State made quite the impression on Ashlock.

"They are definitely one of my early favorites," Ashlock said. "I'm really hoping that they offer me."
