Gus Malzahn has made a name for himself as an offensive mastermind.

That fact isn't lost on some of the top high school prospects in the country. One Texas signal recently took an unofficial visit to Jonesboro this past Friday and was very impressed with ASU and the veteran coach.

Cedar Hill High School quarterback Damion Hobbs currently have three offers, including one from ASU, Oregon State and Iowa State. He is quick to list Arkansas State as one of his early favorites.

"I liked it there a lot," Hobbs told AStateNation Tuesday afternoon. "I like Coach Malzahn a lot, he is a great coach who has been very successful with quarterbacks in his system."

Hobbs is impressed with Malzahn's offensive system and that is one of the main reasons that ASU is one of his top favorites.

"They are definitely one of my favorites," Hobbs said. "They are recruiting me to play quarterback. They are telling me that I would have a chance to come in and compete to start my freshman season."

Hobbs likes Malzahn's offense and feels it's a perfect fit for him.

"I love how one play opens up so many options, especially if you execute it right," Hobbs said. "He won a national championship with this offense with Cam Newton, I know I can be successful in it."

Hobbs is being recruited by ASU tight end coach Dean Jackson and is staying in contact a lot with Red Wolves quarterback coach Rhett Lashlee.

"I'm talking to them a lot," Hobbs said. "The visit to their campus was great. I didn't expect everything to be so new, I expected it to be an older campus. I liked how nice everything was there."
