Today the Red Wolves have an opportunity to win their second straight Sun Belt Conference Championship outright. The winner of today's game will be crowned the champion.
Both teams come into this battle with identical 8-3 records overall and 6-1 in conference.
"This is a huge game for us," Gus Malzahn said earlier this week. "We have the "Best" fans in the Sun Belt. We are leading the league in attendance this year, we need everyone to be their loudest on Saturday, especially when Middle Tennessee has the ball."
Today's game will also mark the end of the regular season and their last home ballgame at Liberty Bank Stadium for 20 seniors.
"It probably won't hit me until after the game," Senior quarterback Ryan Aplin said earlier. "It's going to be an emotional game. This group of seniors don't want to settle for anything other than our second straight Sun Belt Title."
AStateNation.com has confirmed that there will be at least two Bowls represented at today's championship matchup.
Both Liberty Bowl and Go Daddy.com Bowl officials will be on hand to observe the game, the fans and the game day atmosphere at ASU.
A win could give Arkansas State not only their second straight conference title, but could earn the Red Wolves the best bowl ever played by a Sun Belt school.
There is a chance that ASU could represent the Sun Belt in the Liberty Bowl on New Year's eve in Memphis.
"We are saying goodbye to a great group of seniors," Malzahn said. "This group of young men have helped turn this program into one of the best in school history. Our focus is on one thing, we want to win the conference championship, everything else will take care of itself."
