A lot has been made of finding someone who will bring stability to this Arkansas State Football Team.
After two straight one and done head football coaches, Arkansas State University officials hope that they have found the man to stabilize this Red Wolf Football program and hopefully build roots here in Jonesboro.
Bryan Harsin became the 29th Head Football Coach in Arkansas State history and he definitely said things that fired up the Red Wolf faithful.
Many fans feel that if a new head football coach is unwilling to sign a big buyout, it's probably a pretty good indication that the doesn't plan on being at ASU for the longterm.
If that's the case, the AStateNation fan base may be relieved.
AStateNation.com received a copy of the letter of agreements reached between ASU and Coach Harsin.
Harsin will sign a five year contract for 700,000 with a one year buyout of 1.75 million dollars.
Here are some other highlights of the agreement between Harsin and ASU.
Harsin will be provided housing which is owned and maintained by the University. The coach is responsible for paying all utilities for the home, including electricity, gas, water, internet, cable/satellite service and telephone service.
Harsin is to be reimbursed for reasonable moving expenses.
Harsin will be provided a cellular telephone for business use pursuant to the Arkansas State System Policy.
Harsin will be authorized to conduct football camps and clinics, receiving all revenue and paying all expenses.
Harsin will appear in media programs, including Radio and Television shows owned by the University. Last year Malzahn owned all rights to both his radio and television shows.
Harsin's spouse and dependents will be eligible for scholarship opportunities and tuition discounts as authorized by Arkansas State University System Policy.
Harsin will be authorized to hire assistant coaches with the approval of the Director of Athletics and may recommend the hiring of other members of the football athletic staff.
Harsin will be provided with 30 tickets to ASU Home Football game. Harsin will have access to four spaces on all ASU Football Plane trips.
Harsin's buyout consist of 1.750,000.00 first year, 1 million year two, 500,000 third year, 300,000 fourth year and 100,000 for the fifth year.
Harsin will receive a bonus of $50,000.00 for winning a conference championship and participating in a NCAA sanctioned bowl game.
Harsin will receive a bonus of 25,000.00 for participating in a NCAA sanctioned bowl game absent conference championship.
Harsin will receive a bonus of 75,000.00 for participating in a BCS Bowl game.
Harsin will receive a bonus of 100,000.00 for participating in the BCS Championship game and 125,000.00 for winning the BCS Championship.
Harsin to receive a bonus of 10,000.00 for being named Conference Coach of the Year.
Harsin will receive a bonus of 25,000.00 for being named National Coach of the Year.
Harsin to receive a bonus of 10,000.00 in any year in which the APR of the football team is .950 or above.
The bonuses described above will be paid based on the highest achievement. The bonuses are not cumulative and will only be paid if Harsin is still employed by the University at the time the event occurs.
Harsin will receive one year contract extension if the team wins 8 games in a season against FBS opponents.
Harsin will receive these things from the Red Wolf Club.
The Red Wolf Club inc. will arrange for Harsin to be provided with a membership in Ridgepointe Country Club.
The Red Wolf Club will arrange for Harsin to have the use of of two vehicles. Harsin will be responsible for any tax consequences associated with the use of these vehicles.
The Red Wolf Club will arrange deferred compensation of $25,000.00 per year for each of the five years of this contract which will be paid contingent upon Harsin being the Head Football Coach on February 1, 2018. The deferred compensation will not vest until such time as you have completed five full years of employment as the Head Football Coach. ?
The Red Wolf Club will ensure that the total amount available from the University and Red Wolf Club sources is a minimum of 750,000.00 per year to be allocated among 9 on field assistants.
