One Alabama athlete has been on top of Arkansas State's radar since his performance in a camp last summer.
Now that the Red Wolves has a new coaching staff, that hasn't changed Arkansas State's interest in Montgomery Carver's Chequan Burkett.
Burkett, who has offers from Arkansas State, Memphis, and Southern Mississippi, took an official visit to Jonesboro this past weekend.
"I really like the new coaching staff," Burkett told AStateNation.com this morning. "The new coaching staff is very fun and energetic to be around."
One thing that Burkett learned about the Red Wolves this past weekend that he hasn't learned in the past was the fact how close this current team is with one another.
"I got to spend a lot of time getting to know the current team," Burkett said. "This team has a great group of guys, they are really close. They really seem to be excited about the new coaching staff."
The fact that Arkansas State has won back to back conference titles and 10 win seasons is something else that impresses the standout athlete.
"They are building something special here," Burkett said. "I definitely can see myself being a part of what they are building here. Something else that is really impressive is how many of their athletes they graduate, that's important to me and my parents."
Burkett was also impressed with new head coach Bryan Harsin.
"He is a real cool dude," Burkett said. "He really knows what he is doing. He has an impressive resume. He is the type of coach that can get me to that next step. I could see myself playing for him."
Burkett is also beginning to hear from some coaches that he is very familiar with.
Coach Rhett Lashlee was the coach in charge of recruiting Burkett for the Red Wolves, it appears that relationship is continuing.
"Coach Lashlee and Coach Horton has been talking to me a lot since they got to Auburn," Burkett said. "They haven't offered yet, but they are saying that they may want me to come for an official visit next week. We will have to wait and see what happens."
According to Burkett, he is being recruited by Arkansas State to play either safety or the bandit linebacker position for the Red Wolves.
"Coach Thompson really wants me to come in and play right away," Burkett said. "Out of all of the teams that have offered me, Arkansas State is definitely my favorite."
