Harsin gets commitment from QB

Arkansas State got a commitment from a California quarterback Cameron Birse late Wednesday night. Go "Inside" to see what Birse had to say about being the newest Red Wolf.

It's not often that a young man can celebrate the next stage of his life on the day that helped started his life.

Cameron Birse got the best Birthday Present he could have asked for a day before his birthday, his first Division 1 offer, something that will allow him to follow his dream to play big time college football.

Arkansas State quarterback coach Bush Hamdan gave Birse his first offer Tuesday night, Birse waited until his special day (his birthday) to make the call to the Arkansas State Coaching staff.

"I called Coach Hamdan around midnight central time and committed to be an Arkansas State Red Wolf," Birse told AStateNation.com. "I couldn't be happier, it definitely made my 18th Birthday very special."

Birse took an official visit to Jonesboro this past weekend and came away very impressed.

"I was pleasantly surprised," Birse said. "They have a great coaching staff, a great campus and the backing of the community is really positive."

Birse was equally impressed with Harsin and the coaching staff he has assembled.

"Harsin is a great coach," Birse said. "He is very focused, he knows what he wants and knows how to get it. I really like Coach Hamdan the quarterback coach."

Birse got the opportunity to spend some time with the current Red Wolves and impressed with their closeness.

"The band of brothers type of family feel here is very impressive," Birse said. "As a player here you have every opportunity to be successful and win Bowl games and be one of the best smaller schools in the country."

Birse is familiar with Harsin's offensive philosophy.

"We run the same type of offense at my high school," Birse said. "It will be a great opportunity for me, for sure."
