Donnerson Drawing Interest From ASU

In a little more than 4 seconds Kendall Donnerson's world changed. When the big Maumelle High School defensive end (6-foot-4, 215 pounds) clocked a 40-yard dash in less than 4.4 seconds the phone started ringing.

"Oh yes, I started hearing from a lot of people,'' he said. One of those schools was Arkansas State. Since that time he has become a regular on defensive coordinator John Thompson's contact list. "I had not really heard much about Arkansas State until the combine,'' he said. "But I know about them now.'' Also a basketball player, Donnerson said he will attend a football camp at ASU this summer. "I talked with coach Thompson at the combine and on the phone,'' he said. He earned Class 4A All-State honors last season and averaged around 6 points a game for the Hornets. "He will make mistakes, but he is so fast he can still recover and make plays,'' said Maumelle coach Mike Buchan. "I have seen him a lot of times run people down and when he does he usually gets there with a bad attitude."

Buchan said the big defender is in good shape academically but needs to improve his ACT score.

"There is no doubt he is going somewhere if he gets his score. He is a good kid, he just has a little work to do."

Donnerson reports no offers yet.
