But first he wants to show Central Arkansas he is a lot more than he was in the Class 2A title game in March at Barton Coliseum in Little Rock.
"I did not play well that night,'' he said. "I got into early foul trouble and did not have a very good game. I know I can play better than that.
"I am excited about getting to playing the all-star game. it is a goal I've had, one I did not know if I would reach."
In that state title game, a 58-56 loss to Cedar Ridge. Sturdivant finished with just 12 points. (Spencer Reeves, the son of former ASU basketball players Brian Reeves scored 35 and was named MVP in the game.)
Thursday's game will be the final high school competition for the 6-foot Governor who earned Class 2A All-State honors for three seasons with the Warriors. During his career, EPC won two state titles.
Now he is all focused on his future with the Red Wolves.
"I am excited,'' he said. "I have been over here working with the team and getting ready to go to Canada.
"It has been nice being on campus. A lot of the older players are showing me the ropes. I am trying to show them what I can do."
The Red Wolves will make a trip to Calgary, Alberta in August and face three local teams in exhibition games.
"I have never been, I am looking forward to going up there,'' he said. "It is going to be fun. We get to meet new people and go new places. I am just going to go up there and play hard and give it all I have."
The All-Star is Thursday night at the Farris Center on the University of Central Arkansas campus. Tip-off is expected around 7 p.m.
ASU connections: Sturdivant is not the only ASU connection with the All-Star team. One of the East coaches is Bobby Gross of Brookland, who was an All-conference guard on the Nelson Catalina teams of the early 1990s. And a manager is Spencer Reeves of Cedar Ridge, the son of former guard Brian Reeves. Spencer Reeves scored 35 and was named MVP in the game against EPC.
