"It's fun," he said with a smile.

The first-year head coach also knew it meant something else.

"This means we are getting close to football,'' he said.

"I know there are times when I wish we had two more months. But there is a reason the NCAA only gives you 15 days to practice in the spring. There has to be an end.

"But I know our players right now wish it were August first,'' he said. "And I am about like that too, even though I know we still have a lot of things to do.

"The other night I was with my wife and we were at the Red Wolf Classic event and she could tell it was getting close to football season because I was quiet.''

The Red Wolves will officially begin practice on August 1st.

In the coaches poll released Monday morning, the Red Wolves were picked third behind Louisiana-Lafayette and Louisiana-Monroe.

"I understand the reality of it,'' said Harsin. "But the reality of is where you wind up. That is not something we will focus on. We are focused on getting ready, getting in camp. Doing things that we can control, not things that we can't.

The bottom line is where you finish. Your ending numbers are what matters. That is what tells you how your season went. Those numbers do matter.

Our goal is still to win the conference championship."

Harsin was asked a lot of the Red Wolves' quarterback situation.

"Nobody knew Ryan Aplin before he got his chance. It is not a one-man show, it is a team effort. A lot depends on those guys around him. I feel good about our quarterback situation. I like the quarterbacks we have on campus.

"It should help that we have good players around him (the quarterback). It is huge that we have four starters back. I feel good about our offensive line."

ASU had seven players named to the pre-season all-conference team, including center Bryce Giddens. Also on the unit were running back David Oku and wide receiver J.D. McKissic.

On defense, lineman Ryan Carrethers, linebacker Qushaun Lee and safety Sterling Young. Kicker Brian Davis was also named to the team.
