Mighty Monday Night

The rush began about 7:30 when Mesquite, Texas safety Charles Grant decided to pull the trigger and make his pledge to Arkansas State.

Less than an hour later, Michah Thomas, a bandit (DE/LB) from Cedar Park, Texas Vista Ridge joined the Pack.

About two hours later, linebacker Jarrod Chandler of Barton commits to the Red Wolves. In less than three hours, the Red Wolves' commitment list for the Class of 2o14 had grown to nine.

Grant, a 5-foot-11, 183-pound safety, made a visit to Jonesboro on Saturday.

He was immediately impressed, driving up Stadium Boulevard to the football complex and seeing the Red Wolves in store fronts all along the road, "It reminded me of Friday Night Lights,'' he said.

Grant, who has a 3.69 grade point average, chose the Red Wolves over eight other schools. He has started for two years and earned All-District honors both season in Texas' largest classification. He is also a sprinter on the track team.

Thomas (6-2, 230) participated in the Elite Camp II on Friday. But he had an offer before he hit the field that afternoon.

The Cedar Park (Texas) Vista Ridge hit it off with ASU commit Chooks Ota, a defensive linemen from Jonesboro, and tweeted Friday evening about his future roommate.

After participating in a camp at Auburn on Saturday, he returned home to Texas to discuss his plans with his family.

He told Astatenation.com he was down to ASU and UTEP, but ASU was clearly in the lead. He had nine offers.

Chandler, a standout for the Bears, earned all-conference and all-state honors his first two seasons.He is a 6-3, 200-pound defensive lineman/linebacker. Ran a 4.49 40 at Fayetteville camp last weekend.

Grant and Thomas are the second and third commits from Texas. Mesquite Poteet safety/receiver Verkedric Vaughns was the first. Chandler is the third Arkansan to commit to the Red Wolves. Warren offensive lineman Jhamahl bell from Ota from Jonesboro.

The other commits are defnesive back Khari Lain from Sandy Creek, Ga., defensive end Caleb Caston from Psacagoula, Miss., and RB Terrance Hollingsworth of Berry, Ala.
