Circumstances being what they are, the Jaguars and Red Wolves will match identical 3-4 overall records.
South Al is coming off a heartbreaking 33-31 road loss to SBC newcomer Texas State, one of four games for the Jaguars this season which have been decided by only one or two points. Two other games have been decided only by the margin of a touchdown and extra point.
"It's been an unbelievable year, I've never really encountered anything like it," said Coach Joey Jones. "Boy, it sure woulda' been nice to have a couple more of those late wins, and maybe be 5-2 or 6-1 instead."
The only South Al game that hasn't been close this year was a 38-21 homecoming victory two weeks ago over Kent State.
Even though the Red Wolf offense has struggled of late, Jones said he has great concerns about a unit that he believes is loaded with many weapons.
"We've got to keep them from hitting the big play, because they can certainly do that and score quick. We've gotta' make them earn their points."
Meanwhile, the head Jaguar says he fully expects another close game for his team this weekend.
"Probably so. They're very talented and we're pretty decent, so I think it's gonna' be a good ballgame."
Jones made his comments while appearing as a guest on today's AstAteNation Radio program on The Ticket.
Randy Myers is the co-host of AstAteNation Radio. The program airs Monday-Friday from 11-1 on The Ticket 970am/95.3fm and on the web at 953theticket.com.
