First he was noticed by Arkansas State coaches, then came a scholarship offer, an official visit and now the final step, his commitment to the join the Red Wolves' football program.
"I really liked it there," he said. "I liked the coaches and connected with them. I really liked coach (John) Thompson. He is a character.''
Harris is the 12th commitment for A-State. He made the call to coach Bryan Harsin on Sunday to make the pledge.
"There is no place else I want to go," he said. "I called the other coaches and told them I was committing and was no longer interested in them."
Harris, a 6-foot-1, 220-pound linebacker, visited ASU the weekend of the Red Wolves' victory over Texas State.
"I really had a great time," he said at the time. "I really like the school. It was a lot bigger than I expected. It was a lot better than what I thought it would be. There were a lot of new buildings. I am excited about the new indoor facility they will be building."
Harris said his mom's family is from Mobile and he is making plans to attend the GoDaddy Bowl in January.
"Aaron plays linebacker for us,' said Peachtree Ridge coach Mike Fleetwood. " I am really amazed at what he has done. He played on the defensive line last year for us. We switched to a three-man front and he was the one who I thought was athletic enough to move to middle linebacker. It has worked.
"He is a very driven person. He tries to do the right thing. We have had a lot of schools come in here. Mercer, they are going into the Southern conference. Western Kentucky has called and talked, UAB. Georgia Tech was in here this week asking about him. Troy has been here but they don't have a spot for him.
"I think he is a very good player, probably SEC, ACC level, who is flying under the radar."
Harris also had an offer from Georgia State.
Harris said the Red Wolves talked to him about playing middle linebacker.
"I like playing linebacker again,'' he said. "I played it before high school. It is taking a little getting used to again."
