Latest on Facilities

While the Red Wolves search for a new coach and have surprisingly gained two commitments despite lacking a coach there is other football news to discuss. The expected timeline for new facility improvements.

Construction of the new 120 yard indoor football field will start this spring with the actual start of construction depending on the weather. The earliest possible start would be late February but probably no later than mid-April.

Arkansas State expects to add a video board to replace the current south end zone scoreboard and video board. One option being looked at is a four year-old 80 foot wide board that LSU is replacing. Purchasing a used board from Daktronics would allow AState to acquire a much larger board that would still have an expected useful life of more than a decade while still being covered by a full Daktronics warranty.

AState has $5 million committed toward the press box. Arkansas State currently has architects engaged to design plans for renovation as well as replacement of the existing facility. One option being considered would be demolishing and replacing the current press box, a project that would cost approximately $7 million. If that option is chosen, the project would start immediately after the conclusion of the 2014 season.

Fund-raising for the new operations center (new offices, locker rooms, weight and training, meeting rooms and sports medicine) will cost an expected $16 million and AState has about 25% of the needed funds lined up. Right now the expectation is that construction will begin after the 2015 season but there is a possibility this project could begin sooner than expected.
