We believe five positions are filled and have reason to believe two other positions are filled as well. If all seven do join the staff, Coach Anderson has two remaining slots to fill.
Brian Early. After spending four years as defensive coordinator at Fayetteville High School he spent this season as a quality control assistant for the Arkansas Razorbacks. Early is from Monticello and attended UAM. He is expected to coach the secondary.
Glen Elarbee. Spent this season as offensive line coach for the Houston Cougars and previously served the same position at Middle Tennessee State. He played at MTSU and held positions there before a stint through an Oklahoma juco, GA positions at LSU and Oklahoma State. At West Georgia he was OL coach and co-offensive coordinator. Elarbee returned to MTSU and then went to Houston.
Joe Cauthen. Defensive line coach and special teams coordinator at MTSU. Spent four years as defensive coordinator at Valdosta State where the defenses were among the best in Division II and noted for forcing many turnovers. Prior to that spent eight seasons at Texas A&M Commerce and TAMUCC was consistently among the best defenses in Division II. Also served at Stephen F. Austin and coached at a juco in Texas.
Keith Heckendorf. Served in a quality control role for North Carolina. Prior to joining the Tarheels he was quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator for Western Carolina. Heckendorf was a Division II All-American QB and twice a finalist for the Division II version of the Heisman trophy, the Harlan Hill trophy. Other coaching experience includes time as an OC and QB coach at the high school level in Wisconsin and a GA and quality control position at Wisconsin.
Luke Paschall. Graduate assistant for the Tarheels working primarily with the special teams. Paschall was an offensive graduate assistant at Ole Miss and held a quality control position at Oklahoma State. Played at MTSU and is from Dickson, TN.
The coaches listed above have either been confirmed by AStatenation, by other reputable sites or announcement from the coaches. There are two others we believe are joining but we are not as comfortable stating that are definitively joining the staff.
Anthony Tucker. Wide receivers coach currently for the Red Wolves. Came to AState from Idaho State. Served in a quality control position under Dan Hawins at Colorado. Prior to joining the staff at Colorado he was passing game coordinator and receivers coach at Lakewood High School in California. Tucker spent four seasons in the NFL as a receiver and played at Fresno State.
Walt Bell. Tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator for the Tarheels. He will call plays for UNC at the Belk Bowl. Served as receivers coach at Southern Miss and held quality control positions at Oklahoma State and Memphis. Played at MTSU. Bell is from Dickson, TN.
