Beard Pledges to AState

Waco (Texas) Midway offensive tackle Christian Beard believe he has found a home. And his family is happy about it.

The 6-foot-4, 270-pund offensive tackle who had committed to Toledo in December changed his pledge to Arkansas State after a weekend visit. Beard flew into Jonesboro with his family on Friday and spent part of two days visiting the town, campus and A-State football facilities.

Beard's mother is from Arkansas and attended high school in Malvern. The family has a lake home near Hot Springs and spends a lot of time there.

"Oh yeah, I have a lot of family in Arkansas and they are all wanting me to come to Arkansas State," he said before his visit.

Beard is the second offensive tackle to commit to the Red Wolves in the past two days. Florence (Ala.) OT Daniel Keith committed to A-State on Friday and immediately connected with Beard via Twitter.

The Red Wolves have 20 commitments, three of them mid-term transfers, for the 2014 class. They will sign 25.

"He is a very, very good player," said Midway coach Terry Gambill said. "We was our left tackle, and earned All-District honors and and was honorable mention All-State.

"He is just a solid young man, high character guy. He will be a good player in college."

Midway is a Class 5A school, Texas' largest classification.

Beard committed to Toledo during the Christmas break and was also particiapated in the National Underclassmen All-American game in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
