Red Wolf Baseball Opens Friday

Sunshine and warmer temperatures are expected to usher in the opening weekend of Red Wolf baseball at Arkansas State's Kell Field-Tomlinson Stadium. A-State will begin the season tomorrow (Friday) evening with the first of a three-game series against Miami of Ohio.

Veteran senior Bradley Wallace will be on the hill for ASU in game one, according to Coach Tommy Raffo.

"After talking with Coach (Tye) Dickinson and sitting down as a staff, we really strongly felt that Bradley would be the opening day starter. Obviously he's got some experience on the mound, and his last outing for the Red Wolves was a phenomenal victory over Western Kentucky down in Lafayette."

Senior Morgan Croft will get the nod for game two on Saturday, and sophomore David Owen is slated to start on Sunday afternoon.

Raffo made his comments while appearing on today's AstAteNation Radio program on The Ticket (KNEA).

"Coach (Anthony) Everman has worked with the offense this year and has done a wonderful job with our hitters. We've seen a lot of improvement in the offense, and we've got a lot of talented position players. We've got a lot of different pieces to the puzzle to fit," Raffo said when asked about his early season line-up. "We definitely want to see multiple players play over the weekend. If we go with just nine all weekend, it's not gonna' help us evaluate."

First pitch for Friday night's game is at 6 o'clock, with pre-game broadcast set to air at 5:45 on The Ticket (970am/95.3fm/ Saturday afternoon's game begins at 2, but the broadcast will be on KBTM NewsTalk 1230 (am)/101.3 (fm) due to conflicting schedules with ASU womens basketball. Sunday afternoon's game begins at 1 o'clock.
