Red Wolf Women Chasing History

With five games left in the regular season the Red Wolves women's basketball team has within reach an accomplishment that has never been achieved in the 32 year history of Division I women's basketball at Arkansas State.

No Red Wolf team (or Lady Indians, or Tomahawks) team has ever won a conference championship.

Brian Boyer's squad holds a one-and-a-half game lead over the rest of the Sun Belt with five games remaining for Arkansas State.

AState has only one road game remaining, the road trip to UALR. Home games are against UTA this Wednesday at the Convo, AState won 66-62 in Arlington. Saturday they face Texas State. AState won by 16 at San Marcos. After the UALR road trip, AState returns home to face ULM, AState won by 12 in Monroe and finishes the regular season with UL Lafayette who beat AState in the last seconds by one point.

Second place Texas State has three home games and three road games remaining including one game at Arkansas State. The Red Wolves won the meeting in San Marcos 87-71.

Western Kentucky and UALR are tied at two games back and each has five games remaining.

UALR has only one road game left, playing at 5-7 Troy. They have home games with Arkansas State who beat UALR 77-45 in Jonesboro and host UTA and ULM, teams they've already defeated on the road and Georgia State, who beat UALR by 2 in Atlanta.

The Hilltoppers have three road games left playing at second place Texas State, last place Texas-Arlington, and middle of the pack Georgia State and hosts 5-7 ULM and 4-9 Louisiana-Lafayette. AState's sweep of WKU makes the Red Wolves lead effectively equal to three games.

With AState's seniors accounting for 23% of scoring, 27% of rebounding, 15.5% of assists, 23% of blocks, and 14% of steals, the foundation seems to be place for sustained success.
