AState Fan's Guide to the High School Tourney

The AState fan without a team in the Arkansas High School State Championship Finals can find AState connections to root for in Hot Springs.

Thursday

Class 4A girls – Malvern vs. CAC, 3:30 p.m.

Arkansas State signee Akasha Westbrook was the most valuable player a year ago as the Malvern Lady Leopards won the state title. Her team goes for a repeat against conference for Central Arkansas Christian, which is Adriane Davie's alma mater.

Class 4A boys – Brookland vs. Lonoke, 5:15 p.m.

Brookland is coached by Bobby Gross, who was an All-Conference guard for Nelson Catalina in the 1990s. He has been a successful head coach in the state, first at Wynne and now at Brookland. For Lonoke, one of the Jackrabbits' top guns is 6-foot-3 forward Blake Mack, who signed with A-State for football.

"I can see why they like him,'' said Gross. "He is big and strong and fast."

Class 7A girls – Conway vs. FS Northside, 7 p.m.

Class 7A boys – North Little Rock vs. Springdale, 8:45 p.m.

The Wildcats are the defending state champions have lot of talent, including K.J. Hill, who has been offered a football scholarship by Arkansas State and several high major schools.

Friday

Class 5A boys -- Forrest City vs. Jacksonville, 3:30 p.m.

Class 3A girls -- Harding Academy vs. Little Rock eStem Charter, 5:15 p.m.

Class 1A boys – Concord vs. Wonderview, 7 p.m.

Class 1A girls – Nemo Vista vs. Wonderview, 8:15 p.m.

Saturday

Class 2A girls -- Spring Hill vs. Mountainburg, 11 a.m.

Class 3A boys – LR Episcopal Collegiate vs. Charleston, 12:45 p.m.

The Wildcats are coached by former Arkansas State point guard Micah Marsh.

Class 6A girls – LR Parkview vs. Greenwood, 2:30 p.m.

Arkansas State signee Chrystal Hollaway leads the Lady Patriots .

Class 6A boys, Jonesboro vs. LR Parkview, 4:15 p.m.

The Hurricane feature standout junior guard Marquis Poynter and the Patriots have senior guard Daryl Macon, most likely junior college bound, and junior guard Jaylen Franklin. Arkansas State has been interested in all three.

Class 5A girls, Paragould vs. Huntsville, 6 p.m.

Paragould is coached by another former A-State guard, Jay Cook.

Class 2A boys, Center Ridge vs. Clarendon, 7:45 p.m.

Center Ridge is not coached by a former A-State guard but two of their top players are the son of one. Bryan Reaves' sons Spencer, the MVP for last year's state champs, and younger brother Austin play for Center Ridge.
