State Tournament Update

After a successful night for those with an Arkansas State connection on Thursday night at the Arkansas High School basketball state championships in Hot Springs a big day is on tap for Saturday.

Class 3A boys – LR Episcopal Collegiate vs. Charleston, 12:45 p.m.

The Wildcats are coached by former Arkansas State point guard Micah Marsh, who has them in the finals for the second straight season. This is also a team that lost to 7A champion by a field goal back in December.

Class 6A girls – LR Parkview vs. Greenwood, 2:30 p.m.

Arkansas State signee Chrystal Hollaway leads the Lady Patriots , who are also in the state title game for the second straight year. Hollaway has potential to put up big numbers and will need to do so against a talented Greenwood team.

Class 6A boys, Jonesboro vs. LR Parkview, 4:15 p.m.

The Hurricane feature standout junior guard Marquis Poynter and the Patriots have senior guard Daryl Macon, most likely junior college bound, and junior guard Jaylen Franklin. Arkansas State has been interested in all three.

Class 5A girls, Paragould vs. Huntsville, 6 p.m.

Paragould is coached by another former A-State guard Jay Cook, who is also in the title game for the second straight season.

Class 2A boys, Center Ridge vs. Clarendon, 7:45 p.m.

Center Ridge is not coached by a former A-State guard but two of their top players are the son of one. Bryan Reaves' sons are Spencer, the MVP for last year's state champs, and younger brother Austin.

Class 4A girls – Malvern 50, CAC 44.

Arkansas State signee Akasha Westbrook had 9 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals as the Leopards repeated as state champs.
