Football Schedule Update

Future schedules for A-State football are starting to shape up but may not follow the pattern fans have expected.

Arkansas State currently has three games scheduled with FCS level opponents, Montana State this year, Missouri State in 2015, and Central Arkansas in 2016. Subsequent games against FCS opponents will likely depend on how the College Football Playoff Selection Committee makes decisions on which conference champion will go to the access bowl each year. Scheduling practices of other FBS schools may create opportunities for more home and home series.

The Red Wolves are adding home and home series with several FBS schools. Big XII member Iowa State is set for 2024 and 2025. A series with UNLV is on tap but the dates have not been revealed.

AState is in talks with BYU for a home and home. The Cougars are need of quality opponents willing to go home and home as they fill out their schedule as an independent.

No final decision has been made on the 2015 game with Missouri. Busch Stadium has made a substantial offer that would be AState's largest payday ever but is not as large as the amounts paid by Dallas and Atlanta to bring in national names.

One factor that may deter the Red Wolves from moving the Mizzou game is the new press box.

Construction is expected to start in October, with completion coming before the first home game of 2015. Playing only five home games would reduce the value of the suites and club seating compared to a six game slate.

The Red Wolves will travel to Auburn in 2016 which should complete the schedule for that year. AState will also travel to Utah State and will host MAC member Toledo and will welcome in-state FCS school UCA.

The 2015 slate also appears to be complete with the Red Wolves traveling to USC and Toledo with Missouri and Missouri State for home games.
