Roster and Recruiting Update

While recruiting is going at an unprecedented pace for 2015, the Red Wolves won't get everyone from the 2014 class.

One player from the 2014 signing class is certain to not join the Red Wolves in August.

Defensive tackle Kyle Strickland out of Brandon, Miss., has enrolled at Copiah-Lincoln (Miss.) College.

The situation for defensive back D.J. Armstead from Florence, Ala.. is not quite as clear.

“He needs to get his test score,’’ said AState head coach Blaker Anderson. “It was not allowed so he can go to school and not play and work on his score and not affect his eligibility. Or he can do prep school or junior college.”

Since Friday, Arkansas State has added commitments from DL Fred Brown of Hahnville, La., OL Branquavious Bussey of Latte, Ala., and Christian Castleberry of Mesquite, Texas, LB Kirk Louis of Baton Rouge McKinley, RB DeQuante Harris of Moody, Ala., DE T.J. Harris of Tulsa BTW, LB-S Justin Clifton of Tupelo, Miss., and RB Jamal Jones of Memphis Trezevant.

While he cannot comment on any commitments, Anderson acknowledged that the Red Wolves have been on a tear getting pledges from prospects.

“What happened has exceeded by expectations,’’ said Anderson. “Never figured this.

“There is no timetable on this. You don’t expect to be at a certain point. I did not think we would be this far along. The door is closing on a lot of positions. We will be selective on our last few spots that we fill.”
